Fastned opens first fast charging station at Albert Heijn supermarket
This station gives electric drivers the option to rapidly charge their car while doing their daily groceries
Amsterdam, 6 December 2018. Fastned, which is building a European network of fast charging stations, has opened her first fast-charging station at a supermarket of Albert Heijn. This is the first station of Fastned on the parking lot of a supermarket and part of a pilot at 3 Albert Heijn stores. If the pilot is positive, both parties have agreed to collaborate on the realisation of more such stations. The fast charging station at the Albert Heijn has two 50kW fast chargers, where electric cars can charge up to 20 times faster than at home. Fastned supplies 100% renewable electricity from the sun and from the wind.
The aim of the pilot is to test whether there is a need for fast charging while doing daily groceries, which usually takes around 30 minutes. Fastned installs DC fast chargers with which electric drivers can charge up to 150 km of range in half an hour. This is much faster than at AC charging poles. The Fastned fast chargers are only suitable for fully electric cars and not for plug-in hybrids, which do not have the correct (DC) plug.
Michiel Langezaal, CEO of Fastned: "We are very pleased with this partnership and we hope to be able to offer a valuable service to customers of Albert Heijn. The dynamics of charging at supermarkets will probably be different in comparison with charging along the highway and at other urban locations. We can learn from that and further develop our offer.”

Fastned is a charging company that is building a European network of fast charging stations where all electric cars can charge as fast as possible. The stations are located at high traffic locations along the highways and in cities, where electric cars charge in an average of about 20 minutes. This will give electric cars the freedom to drive across Europe. As of today, Fastned has 89 stations operational in the Netherlands and Germany and is working on expanding its fast charging network to the rest of Europe. Fastned is simultaneously building fast charging stations in the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom and is preparing for expansion in Belgium and Switzerland.
